Operation

Compared to a shredder it consumes up to 90% less energy! The Matthiessen bag openers open the bags and let their contents flow onto a conveyor belt for the subsequent optical sorting or manual sorting phase. Waste can be loaded into the hopper with a wheel loader or by a conveyor belt. The hopper is equipped with a conveyor belt that pushes the waste against the rotor which tears and opens the bags. The rotor is equipped with retractable teeth that lift and force the bags against the tearer, causing them to open and empty into the customer's collection belt. Retractable tines minimize film wrapping around the rotor. The bags are opened without being pressed or shredded, guaranteeing the integrity of the outgoing materials.

Large waste and packaging is reduced to more manageable pieces and small loose waste can pass under the rotor and fall directly onto the take-up belt. If non-processable materials pass through, the rotor blocks and reverses the direction of rotation to free itself from the blockage. At the same time the feeding belt stops. The combined action allows the machine to free itself automatically without causing damage to the mechanical parts. For excessively large materials, an access door is provided inside the feeding hopper in order to guarantee manual removal in any case.
